Guest Amenities at Hungry MotherHungry Mother State Park has over 2,000 acres of land which encompasses a 108 acre lake. The park offers a variety of recreational opportunities listed below. Discovery CenterThe Restaurant Swimming Hiking Fishing Boat Dock and Rentals Picnic Shelters Camping Facilities Cabin Rentals Hemlock Haven The Gazebo and the Island Amphitheater The Discovery CenterThe Discovery Center is not only a visitor center but also a nature center. Camping and cabin guests go to the Discovery Center to register. While there, they can gather all the current information about the park, park happenings, and the area around the park. They will also be able to find souvenirs from the park in the Discovery Center’s Gift Shop. Many of the displays in the Discovery Center are centered around helping the park guest better understand the park, it’s history, and it’s natural environment. Throughout the year, rotating exhibits from local attractions are also featured. The Discovery Center is also the main office complex for the park. Back to Top of Page The Restaurant at Hungry Mother State ParkDining Facilities at The RestaurantMeeting Facilities at The RestaurantThe Swimming BeachHikingHungry Mother Park provides about 13 miles of hiking and biking trails in the Brushy Mountain Range. There are seven different trails varying in length and difficulty. These well-marked passages take the hiker through mature forest and tall growths of oak, maple, pine, and hemlock or in long lakeside ravines with a thick cover of rhododendron. Hikers will also see evidence of damaged trees from past fires, ice storms, and native animals. Whichever trek you take, be sure to follow all state park guidelines. Back to Top of PageCampingThe park has a total of over 100 camping sites, all with picnic tables and fire rings. There are 32 sites with water and electric hookups and over 50 sites with full hookups. We have two campgrounds that can accommodate trailers or motor homes. A dump station is located in the parking lot at the main office. One campground is designated as tent camping only. Bath houses are located at each campground. A maximum of 6 people or one family, and two vehicles are allowed per site. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the camping fee includes free passes to the beach. Back to Top of Page Cabin RentalsThe park offers an efficiency cabin, two one-bedroom cabins, and 17 two-bedroom cabins. Cabin fees include free swim pass to the beach between Memorial Day and Labor Day. There is an additional charge for pets. Cabins are rented on a weekly or two night minimum basis. The cabins are available year round and may be reserved up to 11 months in advance. Back to Top of Page The Gazebo and The Island AmphitheaterNear The Restaurant in Hungry Mother State Park, there is a beautiful gazebo. It is used for a number of activities such as: Music in the Park, the Hungry Mother Arts and Crafts Festival, and weddings. If individuals or groups wish to reserve the gazebo for a special function such as a wedding, they may contact the park staff by calling 1-276-781-7400 for information. Visitors to scenic Hungry Mother Island may access the island by walking over the bridge which is to the left of the boat dock. It is accessible for visitors with special needs. On the island is a small stage with benches in a semi-circle in front of it. It is also used for special activities such as entertainment and weddings.
